How to read these data

In the SkillSelect system, each Expression of Interest (EOI) can go through up to five different status:

  1. SUBMITTED – This is the starting point. The EOI has been submitted and is now waiting to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a visa.
  2. INVITED – Once the EOI receives an ITA, the status changes to INVITED. At this stage, the applicant has not yet submitted their visa application.
  3. LODGED – After the applicant lodges the visa application based on the ITA, the EOI moves to the LODGED status.
  4. CLOSED – The EOI reaches this final status when the visa is either granted, refused, or the EOI has expired (which happens automatically two years after submission if no invitation is received).
  5. HOLD – If the applicant chooses to temporarily pause their EOI, the status becomes HOLD. It can be resumed later.

How the system works:

An EOI starts as SUBMITTED. If it gets an ITA, it becomes INVITED. After the visa is submitted, the status changes to LODGED, and eventually to CLOSED once the outcome is known. If no invitation is received within two years, the EOI automatically moves to CLOSED due to expiry.

Reporting and data:

The SkillSelect dashboard updates its data at the end of each month, showing the status of all EOIs at that specific point in time. The data is not cumulative, meaning each monthly report is a fresh snapshot and does not carry forward data from previous months.

Note:

  1. If the number of EOIs in a particular category is fewer than 20, the system does not report the exact number. In such cases, we assume the count to be 10 for estimation purposes.
